Shopping for the Cheapest Price May Not Be the Best Choice

Many articles these days are talking about saving money, shopping generic or getting the best buy.  I have been watching and reading many of these ideas as I always want to share good tips for healthy living.  Recently I found many good ideas for using baking soda, cucumbers and vinegar.  Some were about cleaning, health and solving problems.

Today I read about shopping generic.  Yes, I do understand the importance of saving money as one compares the name brands with the store brands.  There are many reasons for the differences in price.

1. Spices had a huge saving in generic or store brands against the "name brands".  Here are some of the reasons you will find this.  Many spices are irradiated  to extend their shelf life.  Irradiation is like microwaving the spice.  It changes its structure and remove (kills) the life force of the spice. Irradiation extends shelf life to xxx years.  Another reason is that the source of the cinnamon, oregano or basil is not the top quality on the market.  Why by second rate products for yourself and your family.  This is where you might consider getting the organic variety...then look for the cheapest in that venue.  At least you will be avoiding the pesticides, herbicides and other toxins.

2. Milk has a wide spread of pricing yet consider the source.  How well are the cows cared for?  Are they fed "good food" or recycled junk or GMO feed?  Are they treated with rBHG a hormone that is hard on the cow and increases the pus in the milk.  Pasteurized to "kill" the bad guy allowing them to "pass the health dept. tests".  What do you prefer to feed your children?  What impact will this "cheap" milk have on their bodies in the coming years?  Much of this GMO product line is sneaking into our kitchens is untested.  We have no idea how the next generation will be impacted by this breakthrough technology.  The thought of this is scary to even consider.

I could go on and on but for the moment this will give you some hint as to why buying cheap is always not the best way to shop.  Know why the food is cheaper then make an educated decision.
